Prof. Graham Pawelec, MA, PhD (Cantab), FGSA

Prof. Graham Pawelec, MA, PhD (Cantab), FGSA, is an immunologist and a clinical and biomedical researcher with a particular interest in the mechanisms and treatment of cancer and frailty in older adults, and how these impacts on vaccination both against infectious disease and cancer. His initial training included pre-clinical Natural Sciences at St Catharine´s College, Cambridge, UK, followed by a PhD from the Department of Surgery, Cambridge University, UK, in 1982 with a thesis entitled “Stimulation of pig lymphocyte proliferation in vitro by allogeneic cells” under the supervision of Prof. Benjamin B.A. Bradley and Dr. Hugh F.S. Davies. Prof. Pawelec’s primary research interests include elucidating the mechanisms of and potential new treatments for immunosenescence and vaccine unresponsiveness in older adults and cancer patients. He is a Professor of Experimental Immunology in the Department of Immunology, University of Tübingen, Tübingen, Germany (Head: Prof. Dr. Hans-Georg Rammensee) and is an Affiliated Scientist at the Health Sciences North Research Institute, Sudbury, ON, Canada. He is the author of more than 300 peer-reviewed articles and multiple book chapters and has edited 4 books in the aging and immunology fields.
